Event gathering representatives from multiple countries reinforces Brazil’s leading role in cattle ranching.
An unprecedented event in Brazil is set to showcase the continental-sized country’s full potential when it comes to the beef cattle industry. The World Angus Secretariat is scheduled from May 8 through 19 in 2027. Months ahead, the Brazilian Angus Association works intensively so that breeders, association leaders, researchers, and meat industry executives can learn about the work that made Brazilian Angus beef a global synonym for quality.
To demonstrate how Brazil became a world reference for the breed, the event will promote a technical immersion in order to strengthen links in the global beef chain. Throughout the program, visits will be held across Brazil’s most diverse livestock production systems. “For us, hosting the World Secretariat reinforces Brazil’s strategic position in the global supply chain for the breed. It will be a major opportunity to integrate producing countries and to increase the visibility of Brazilian Angus genetics and beef on the international stage,” says José Paulo Dornelles Cairoli, president of the Brazilian Angus Association.
According to William McLaren, Secretary-General of the World Angus Secretariat, Brazil will be able to deliver a unique program. “I have great expectations for a highly professional event which presents the Angus breed with a Brazilian touch and highlights its use in one of the world’s largest beef-producing countries. It will be an opportunity to show how Angus genetics, applied in commercial herds, can adapt to diverse environments and native breeds while improving meat quality,” he explains.
McLaren’s management goals include promoting Angus as the world’s largest beef breed, connecting organizations across countries, and fostering both data and information exchange. He believes the 2027 World Angus Secretariat will feature top-pedigree animals capable of impressing delegates from around the world. “The best possible outcome will be participants leaving Brazil not only with a deeper understanding of Brazilian Angus production, but also with a shared vision for the future of the global Angus industry.”
Immersion visits on rural properties
The Secretariat’s program will be structured around several tracks. One of them includes visits to farms and production systems in the states of São Paulo, Mato Grosso do Sul, Paraná, and Rio Grande do Sul. The goal of the experiences is to offer participants a comprehensive view of Brazilian livestock production.
During these immersion visits, participants will witness the country’s high production standards up close. In São Paulo, the highlight is Grupo VPJ, in Mococa, an integrated operation focused on the genetic improvement of Angus, Brangus, and Ultrablack breeds. In Mato Grosso do Sul, Agropecuária Maragogipe, in Itaquiraí, will demonstrate the success of industrial crossbreeding between Angus and Nelore — a model that has earned the property 11 titles in carcass competitions promoted by the Brazilian Angus Association. In Paraná, Fazenda Bio Canto, in Cascavel, will showcase regenerative and sustainable practices connected to modern livestock farming.
Rio Grande do Sul will host immersion visits focused on genetics and research. In addition to Embrapa Pecuária Sul, in Bagé, the itinerary will include other historically and technologically significant properties. One of them is Fazenda Santa Eulália, in Pelotas, owned by Joaquim Mello – a former president of the Brazilian Angus Association and longstanding genetics producer within the Certified Angus Beef Program. Participants will also visit Capanegra Agropecuária, in Dom Pedrito, owned by Fernando Pons, a breeder whose distinguished history in the Angus breed is a reference in genetic selection. Cia Azul, in Uruguaiana, is another stop in the itinerary. The company is recognized for embracing technologies such as carcass ultrasound, genomic evaluation, and tick counting, among others. The event’s organizers will offer charter flights and executive buses in order to cover the wide geographic scope with comfort and agility.
From research to business
Another track will be the International Conference, held in Gramado, in Rio Grande do Sul’s mountain region, gathering together experts and industry leaders to discuss trends, challenges, and opportunities in the global beef market. Sessions will address land use in Brazil, sustainable production with a focus on volume and quality, and the impact of the Angus breed on Brazilian livestock farming.
Alongside the conference, the event will feature the largest breed exhibition, driving business by connecting companies in genetics, nutrition, animal health, and agro-technology, while attracting strategic partners through premium sponsorship packages.
There will also be an official Secretariat auction in Esteio (RS), showcasing high-level Angus genetics and fostering integration between breeders and investors. Only animals that receive an official passport, issued by the Brazilian Angus Association, will be eligible to participate.
The program also includes a gala dinner in Gramado, a meeting for delegates from all member countries, and wine tourism excursions to the prestigious wineries in the region. In Esteio, the agenda will feature an authentic Brazilian Angus barbecue, celebrating the excellence of the national “churrasco” tradition. The official closing ceremony will take place in Uruguaiana.
